Let’s Get In The Zone

As a fitness professional and studio owner, I am always on the lookout for new training methods, equipment, toys and gadgets that may help us up our training game. With the increasing popularity of using wearables and apps to track our workout intensity and performance, Thao and I were on the lookout for a proven technology that we can bring to the studio so our team can be even more mindful and strategic in conducting our training sessions. We want you to feel more engaged, challenged, and ultimately inspired to really SHOW UP at every workout. So, last week at IDEA World Fitness Convention, aka the Super Bowl of Fitness, we decided to invest in a technology called Myzone.
The purpose of Myzone is to use technology to help people feel good about exercise, which we can totally get after! While heart rate monitors are nothing new, Myzone is wearable heart rate based system with a 99.4% EKG accuracy. It monitors heart rate, calories and time exercising that convert into Myzone Effort Points (MEPs), with a focus on rewarding effort rather than fitness. It is a great tool for anyone who wants an accurate, gamified and motivating wearable. When you are working out with your trainer at the studio, both of you can view your effort live on our soon to be installed TV screen. If you want to take your training outside, you can just as easily view it on your smartphone. Your trainer will now be able to better gauge your effort and intensity levels and also know when you need a longer recovery or rest days. With the Myzone app, you will be able to connect with your trainer, workout friends at the studio or anywhere in the world to motivate and challenge each other.
As much as I am all about focusing on the intrinsic enjoyment of exercise and movement, I also firmly believe that we can’t improve what we don’t measure. So I hope you are as excited as we are in adopting this new tool to kick some serious a$$es in the near future. If you are interested in reading more about Myzone, check out their website. In the meantime, keep working out hard like you always do and stay tuned…
